“In Australia, we have a strong foothold in the apparel and footwear markets and we’re seeing a significant uptick in our global sales,” Nike Australia CEO Tim Cappelli told ABC News.
“The opportunity is so great, it’s just a matter of time.”
In terms of total retail sales, Nike’s footwear business has grown by 60 per cent over the last five years and it is expected that the brand will continue to grow in Australia.
“Our Australian footwear business is strong,” Cappell said.
“It has more than doubled since 2010 and we have more than 20,000 stores and more than 12,000 retail outlets.”
In the US alone, Nike has a total of about 1.2 million employees and the company has seen growth of more than 10 per cent annually.
The growth in footwear sales is also projected to continue into the next decade, according to MarketScan.
“I think it’s fair to say that Nike is well positioned to take advantage of the growth opportunities of this era of globalisation,” Mr Cappella said.
“They are well positioned in the retail and footwear sectors and are also well positioned at the footwear level to offer a more competitive range.”
